Sustainability is Key: How to Repurpose Items from your Wedding Day

After all the money spent and the memories made from your big day, it can be difficult to throw away everything you used from your wedding day. From florals to tabletop decor, dessert stands to invitations, here are a few tips on how to practice sustainability while also repurposing items from your wedding day around your house. These ideas are not only environmentally friendly, but help to keep the memories of your special day alive.

Candy/Snack Jars

If you used large glass jars or mason jars as dessert holders, repurpose these around your house as candy or nut jars. By washing out all the excess junk from your wedding day, these jars will be as good as new and ready to display your favorite candy, nuts, or snacks in your kitchen, living room, coffee table or even your pantry. Not only are you repurposing an item from your wedding that looks cute, but when you use or look at it, it will always be a reminder of your special day.

Rugs or Tablecloths

Rugs can always help spice up your hardwood floors across your home, whether it’s in your living room, kitchen, or bedroom. These rugs are special and will remind you and your partner of your big day where you exchange your vows. Tablecloths can also serve the same purpose. You will always be reminded of your first meal as a married couple when using the tablecloths and linens from your wedding day. Not only do these items have significance and a story, but also will help you save money on household items in the long run.

Florals

Do you have extra floral arrangements from your big day? A fun way to make use out of extra flowers that you may have is to press them into a hanging glass frame or shadow box to hang up on your wall.

Another fun, yet meaningful way to repurpose your wedding florals if you have a lot left would be to send your guests home with a small batch of flowers from your wedding day. The flowers won’t go to waste and your guests can enjoy them up to a week after your wedding. However, be sure to remember to ask your florist for plastic liners so your guests aren’t bringing home fancy, expensive vases.

Picture Frames

Lastly, picture frames are an easy and inexpensive way to dress up any space in your home. You can either use photos that you had on your welcome table at your wedding to decorate a shelf in your home, or take out an existing photo from your wedding day and replace it with a new one. You can never have too many pictures hanging on your walls or to decorate a shelf, desk, or bedroom with.
